The Bay House is a drama about a dysfunctional family, fragilely held together by a familial thread of bloodline, that keeps the family members coming back in their subconscious search for the love never received as children. It’s a knives-out, nothing to lose fight to the finish played out over a twenty-four hour period, at the family’s weekend retreat. Cowden Brooks a career politician who has recently lost election in the face of scandal, seeks the comfort of his fractured family. His oldest son Ryan and his wife Laine struggle with the death of their son and the unexplained accident, indirectly caused by a chain of events set in motion by Cowden. His youngest son, Cam a thirty-five year old college student who has yet to grow up, arrives unexpectedly to challenge his father for the abandonment he endured as a child. Cowden’s wife Joan, the self appointed matriarch, Ryan and Cam’s aunt, is blamed for their mother’s mental break down, twenty years before, when she learned her little sister was pregnant with Cowden’s baby, now a snippy, manipulative, spoiled nineteen year old, Shelly. The Bay House is a hard hitting drama that weaves humor with tragedy and a delicate stream of raw emotion by the characters with whom most can relate. Grains of truth mixed with half truths, lies and family secrets come to an ugly confession and the unexpected reality of their love for one another.
