Investment in single-family homes has become an increasingly popular strategy, particularly gaining traction since the Great Recession. Portfolios of rental homes can allow an individual investor to enter the commercial real estate market for a relatively small buy-in, or scaled up to be a viable asset class for institutional investors.
With over twenty years of experience building and managing a single-family rental home portfolio, Ryan Wiederstein has unique insight into this phenomenon from a local perspective. At our September luncheon, Ryan, joined by his colleague Matt Guns, will share with us some of the knowledge he's gained over the years and will address some of the following questions:
• What type of product makes sense: townhome/attached garage, apartment-style, or detached single family homes?
• What are the management considerations?
• How do you identify targeted locations/geographic regions and portfolio size that will be most profitable?
• What demographic trends have emerged within the renter pool?
• What has changed during/post COVID?
• Why the pushback of cities/government on allowance of single family rentals?
• Why the pushback against institutional investor participation in the market?
• What are the positive and negative social consequences of this growing trend?
