Description

This 2-night session is a free catered event that will be an open forum to discuss the generational impact of Alzheimer's in the BIPOC Community and how MAP can refine its strategic approach for recruiting diversity for Alzheimer's research and clinical trials. Please allow me to share a few stats with you on why engaging the BIPOC community is critical for Alzheimer's clinical research trials: • 6.5 million Americans currently have Alzheimer’s. • Among Black Americans ages 70 and older, 21.3% are living with Alzheimer's .• 20% of Americans with Alzheimer’s are African American and bear 33% of the national cost. • African Americans are 2 - 3xs more likely to develop Alzheimer’s compared to their Caucasian counterparts. • Latinos are 1.5xs more likely to develop Alzheimer’s compared to their Caucasian counterparts. • Despite being over 13.4% of the population – fewer than 5% of clinical trial participants are African American.
