Description

Knitting Needles. Leeches. Gunpowder. Lye. These were the tools that women and girls often turned to in the late 19th and early 20th century prior to abortion becoming legal after the Roe v. Wade ruling. But in the nearly 50 years of legal abortion in the United States techniques have dramatically changed. And for those who may be unable to access legal abortion now that Roe has been overturned, that is a very good thing. Come learn about the evolution of abortion tools and procedures and dispell myths around modern-day abortions. Robin Marty is Director of Operations for West Alabama Women’s Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She is also the author of “A New Handbook for a Post-Roe America” and “The End of Roe v. Wade,” and her work can be found at NBC, Time Magazine, Cosmopolitan, Politico, Rolling Stone and more. This event is presented by the Mobile Medical Museum and the University of South Alabama Gender Studies Program. There is no set ticket price, but attendees are asked to make a donation of any amount to support the museum's educational programming.
