Title: Assessment of Crew State and Technology Adaptation for Human-Autonomy Teams in the Next Generation Combat Vehicle (ARL 21-162)
Objective: To explore how Army-relevant tasks and dynamic technology adaptation affect crew physiology, behavior, and performance.
We are recruiting healthy participants between 18 and 60 years of age to be part of a research study at Playa Vista, CA. If eligible, you will participate in an engaging virtual security patrol task with a teammate, operating a combat vehicle or drone to find targets of interest and eliminate enemies. This will involve audio and video recording, eye tracking, questionnaires, and sensors on the torso and wrist. For completing this study, members of the general public will be compensated up to $100 (and no less than $50). This study was reviewed by the ARL HRPP.
To be eligible, you must:
Be 18-60 years old
Be fluent in English
Have normal or corrected to normal full-color vision (without bifocals or trifocals)
Be able to hear most environmental sounds
Be healthy
Be willing and able to experience virtual simulations and sit in a chair for at least 60 minutes
Not have a cardiovascular illness
Not be highly susceptible to motion sickness
Not have photosensitive epilepsy
We will ensure that we are doing all we can to help keep people safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the following measures:
Staff and participants will be required to wear masks
Staff will clean and sanitize all commonly touched surfaces
Social distancing will be observed, and teammates will sit in separate rooms
Staff will ask screening questions and check temperatures
Physical access to our building requires visitors to attest to your COVID-19 vaccination status.
Current DoD policy requires visitors must either be fully vaccinated OR provide proof of negative result of an FDA authorized/approved COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to visit.
