It's because it's a now a gig economy. Most people are working side hustle jobs which there are plenty of. But these are all unskilled, dead end low wage jobs. The large companies with living wage jobs where you can progress and move up are mostly gone. Most of their physical jobs have been outsourced and everything else is mostly automated. The focus of these corporations and other large businesses over the last twenty years has not been expanding, it's been eliminating as many employees as possible. Heartless, selfish greed is the way of American businesses in the 21st century. And to top it off inflation has skyrocketed. Forget about that 19th and 20th century Land of the Free Slogan, we now live in the Land of the Greed !!!
