Description

In this workshop, you will indulge with fellow nature lovers in a relaxing mindfulness forest bathing walk followed by an outdoor watercolor class. No artistic background is necessary. Come and enjoy the crisp fresh air and the soothing experience of painting in nature. We provide the supplies. Fall is the season of warm, vibrant colors and unusual leaf patterns. As the Victorian artist and art critic John Ruskin wrote, “If you can paint one leaf, you can paint the world.” In this workshop, we will capture the changing colors of the season and various patterns by observing and painting fall foliage under the encouraging guidance of your instructor, Nancy DeNicolo. We will create a watercolor inspired by the forms and colors of the leaves. Paper, pencil, and paint will be provided, but if you have a favorite sketchbook or journal and paints and drawing tools you love, feel free to use them. This class is appropriate for all skill levels, from those fearful of drawing to those with years of experience. Individual styles are encouraged and celebrated. Nancy is a fun, engaging, approachable, and knowledgeable instructor, who has over 40 years of work experience and continuing education in the art of teaching and the creative arts for self-expression and healing. What You Can Expect: First Hour: Forest Bathing We begin with a centering meditation in nature.A guided, slow, mindful walk through the forest with a series of invitations crafted to help participants slow down and open their senses. Opening one’s senses encourage mindfulness, which readies the heart and mind to be fully present in the natural world.Second Hour: Earthmind Journaling | Painting Autumn Leaves in Watercolor Now in our mindful state with our senses awakened, we will create a piece of self-expressive art to remind you of this moment in time: with friends, enjoying the natural world. Nancy will demonstrate and offer suggestions for getting into a creative and playful mind space to make your painting. You will be offered methods for representational, impressionistic, and abstract painting, and you may choose what inspires you. You will take your art supplies and find a quiet “sit spot” to work on your painting and connect with the beauty all around.Last Half Hour We will regroup, share our paintings and experiences (only if you would like), and enjoy a locally harvested hot tea. What to Bring Bring a trail seat, portable chair, and/or blankets, cushions, and/or whatever will make you comfortable outside.Sunscreen to protect your skinHat with a brim to shade your eyesWaterPaper, pencil, and paint will be provided, but if you have a favorite sketchbook or journal and paints and drawing tools you love, feel free to use them.
