Textile waste is a serious problem locally and around the globe. Here in San Benito County textiles were identified in 2021 as one of the top contaminants in our Recycling stream. The State of California has also identified textiles as a target material for waste prevention, reuse and recycling. Shana is an award-winning textile artist whose work has been featured in Altered Couture Magazine, the Austin Statesman and Mission Village Voice. She has also researched sustainable fashion and textiles since 2014, including attending the Fashion Institute of Technology New York's Summer Institute twice. Her writing on sustainable fashion and textiles has been featured via national and international media channels. She has written over 200 articles on fashion topics ranging from historic costuming to street style. Attendees are encouraged to bring a bag lunch.
