He joined the South Carolina Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) as the USC Region Director in October 2020. With SBDC he is responsible for seven offices throughout the Lowcountry and Midlands of South Carolina. Prior to joining SBDC, he spent five years as a Business Loan Officer for the City of Columbia and four years as a Commercial Loan Officer for the CLIMB Fund, a Community Development Finance Institution (CDFI) providing financial assistance to small businesses. He grew up in Charleston and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of South Carolina and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Georgia. John Misner, Ph.D.: Certified Mentor and Chapter Chair SCORE – Charleston, SC John brings more than 40 years of experience in the fields of finance and strategic management to his role as Certified Mentor and Chapter Chair with the Charleston office of SCORE. In his professional career, John has served in the commercial and investment banking industries as well as in higher education. John is a published author and frequent speaker in the areas of financial risk modeling, market volatility, economic and financial forecasting, economic development, financial management, strategic planning, entrepreneurship, and business succession planning. SCORE’s mission is to foster vibrant small business communities through mentoring and education. With the nation’s largest network of volunteer, expert business mentors, SCORE has helped more than 11 million entrepreneurs since 1964. Darrell Davis: Director Housing and Neighborhood Revitalization Darrell Davis comes to Charleston with nearly 30 years of experience in urban development, real estate finance, and affordable housing. Having lived in public housing as a child, he is dedicated to creating thriving communities where every person has access to opportunity. He has spent the majority of his career working in real estate and community development helping to provide safe, decent, and affordable housing for urban communities. Most recently, Darrell served as the Director of Development for the Miami-Dade Department of Public Housing and Community Development where he was responsible for the redevelopment of the agency’s 10,000-unit public housing portfolio. He has also served as the Chief Development Officer for the Housing Authorities in Washington, DC, Pittsburgh, and Canton, OH. In those roles he has overseen the redevelopment of more than 3,000 public housing units. Darrell has served in several government and non-profit development roles, including the Ohio Housing Finance Agency where he served on the Low Income Housing Tax Credit allocation team, and the Columbus Compact Corp. where he worked to bring much needed retail and housing development to inner city communities in Columbus, Ohio. He has also worked with national and regional for-profit developers including ING/Clarion and the Kaempfer Company in Washington, DC. Darrell is a graduate of the Columbus Academy in Columbus, OH and the Howard University School of Architecture and Planning. Both schools impressed upon him an intense sense of responsibility and obligation to give back to the communities from which we came. Darrell and his wife Eltina have five children and 4 grandchildren with a fifth grandchild expected this spring. Will Furman: SBA Senior Area Manager William is the Senior Area Manager for the US Small Business Administration in North Charleston. He graduated with a BS degree from Clemson University and has had over a 30-year career with the US Department of Agriculture and the US Small Business Administration administering business and economic development programs. William serves the 10 coastal counties of South Carolina and is an expert in providing SBA lending programs, Government contracting programs, and SBA Covid-19 relief programs.
