Deerbrook Park Toastmasters has been your local Toastmasters club for Deerfield, Highland Park, Northbrook and points beyond for almost 40 years. In light of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Toastmasters clubs around the world began to hold online meetings earlier in 2020, and Deerbrook Park was no exception. However, the switch to online meetings did not in any way diminish the effectiveness of Toastmasters educational program in helping members become more confident speakers, communicators and leaders. If you’re thinking about what your New Year’s resolutions should be for 2021, maybe developing your public speaking, communication and leadership skills is one that you’ve been meaning to focus on but just never got around to doing? A journey toward self-improvement begins with but a single step and starting off 2021 with a virtual visit to one of Deerbrook Park Toastmasters online meetings just might be that self-improvement opportunity you’ve been looking for. The Club meets online (via Zoom) every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm—and guests are always welcome. Another benefit of attending the Club’s online meetings is learning to be more comfortable, confident and knowledgeable in putting your best foot forward in a meeting run with Zoom, which the Club uses for its online meetings. The Zoom environment is different than the in-person environment so Zoom requires some training and practice in order to maximize your effectiveness in using this new medium for public speaking. Toastmasters will help you learn these best practices and tips.
