Our Maintenance of Way / Utility personnel perform maintenance of our track infrastructure including construction, inspection and repair of our track, and other railroad properties & facilities; operation of the equipment used in these tasks, and, in some cases, maintenance of that equipment. This position works under the direction of the MOW Foreman. • Perform track maintenance, repair, and installation. • Safe and efficient use of operating track tools and equipment. • Monitor condition of tracks, track beds, and track right of way, for problems or defects. • Provide professional, consistent, and timely response for reported problems/issues. • Recurrent communication with train crew and office personal to ensure well maintained and safe track conditions. • Adhere to company & industry safety rules, practices, and procedures. • Cut vegetation and brush. • Assist train crew with railcar movements, as necessary. • Perform other duties as assigned by the MOW Foreman and/or the Operations Manager. Qualifications: Skills • Ability to work outside in all types of weather conditions. • Must be capable of performing physically strenuous work on a continuous basis. • Must be able to read and comprehend regulations and instructions. • Organizational skills to effectively process all required paperwork. • Strong communication skills to effectively relay information and converse with MCER staff & customers, other railroad personnel and municipality officials. • A positive attitude with a strong desire to take ownership of various tasks. • Previous Maintenance of Way experience preferred but not required. Requirements • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older. • High School Diploma or equivalent • Valid drivers license, clean driving record, reliable transportation • Must pass pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol testing.
