Join us for a chance to learn from BIPOC Powerhouses and connect with other empowered Jefas. This intimate conversation space is open to all and centers around BIPOC leaders and bosses as they share their stories of building successful brands, businesses and become bosses of their own creative entrepreneurial lives. Each Jefa Brunch is in partnership with Frida Friday ATX first-Sunday markets held at Lustre Pearl South. Brunch and sparkling Garden Spritz Specialty cocktail provided by Chandon included with your JEFA BRUNCH ticket purchase! This event is a mixed indoor/outdoor event with the opportunity to shop at the Frida Friday ATX market following brunch. Featuring BIPOC Jefas: - Dr. Jereka Thomas-Hockaday - Central Texas Allied Health Institute - Melissa Rojas - Owner of Chasing Camilla - Chanda Mau - Feed Me Right Mau Each brunch will also include an opportunity to participate in the photo project, Juntas We Grow, with photographer Mel Navarro, which showcases the importance of growing together and collaboratively. Visitors are encouraged to bring their family and friends to participate in this pop-up photo project. Dr. Jareka Thomas-HockadayFounder and Dean of Specialty Programs at Central Texas Allied Health InstituteOver her twenty-year career in healthcare, Jareka has worked as an Emergency Room Technician, Surgical Technologist and Surgical Assistant in various hospitals in the Austin area. She has also served as an Surgical Technology Instructor, Clinical Coordinator and Acting Department Chair at Brown Mackie College-San Antonio. She is now co-founder of the Central Texas Allied Health Institute, a new institution of higher learning that seeks to bring allied health care training to individuals in vulnerable communities who have not historically had access to these types of programs. She and her team are featured on the upcoming sixth season of Queer Eye for their work running a Travis County sponsored COVID testing and vaccination clinic in East Austin. Melissa Rojas - Owner of Chasing CamillaMelissa has always had her hands in the fashion industry and had the opportunity to travel the world and experience fashion up close. Her portfolio includes being the personal assistant to Lindsay Lohan in 2009, working at LA-based Fashion House Thomas Wylde, and styling celebrity Gina Rodriguez in 2011. In 2017, after the birth of her daughter Camilla, a failed marriage, and with nothing to her name, founder Melissa Rojas started her company Chasing Camilla. A Zarape inspired, Mommy and Me brand, she started with only one item, the Zarape Santa hat. Now her shop carries hundreds of handmade cositas made in house by women or imported from Mexico. She travels the world sourcing and curating the most unique products and working directly with Artisans. Her handmade items have been carried in over 30 boutiques and museums and her brand has been featured in SA Local Living News TV, Parent Latina Magazine, Fierce by Mitu, Pero Like, Voyage Houston, Voyage Austin and more. Melissa hopes that by sharing her story, she can inspire others that have gone through a similar situation. "Eres Más Fuerte de lo que te imaginas" Chanda Mau, Chef and Content Creator for “Feed Me Right Mau”Chef Chanda Mau shares her cooking as a way of giving back, connecting with others, and honoring her Cambodian heritage. Most recently, Chanda has organized six pop-ups for charitable causes, including Bakers Against Racism, Austin Pets Alive, and a benefit for those affected by Hurricane Ida. In less than 2 years, she has raised close to $30,000 by spearheading these fundraisers when the community is in need. Follow her journey on Instagram at FeedMeRightMau.
