Description

This lecture version of Zackery Belanger's essay "Acoustic Ornament" connects the objects and surfaces that surround us with the sound of our built environment. Gleaning insight from art, architecture, physics, and a time before modern architectural acoustics, Belanger demystifies ideas of material, form, and scale in acoustics. Beautiful, silent moving images of acoustic energy will be projected to illustrate ideas that ultimately coalesce around a central concept - the Sphericity Conjecture - which offers a potential new way to design for sound. The talk will take place at Arcgeometer's studio in the Albert Kahn-designed Belt Line Center, surrounded by the surfaces, prototypes, and prints of Arcgeometer's work. An Arcgeometer open studio surrounds the talk, starting at 1:00p and ending at 9:00p. Presented in collaboration with Murmur Ring (Chicago)
