Description

Facilitation by Kenni Field, featuring a sound bath meditation by Ajon Jones Warm greetings. Welcome to the Clay Meditations ceramics art-making workshop series. We invite you to an evening of contemplation through guided meditation, sound bath, and creative exploration. Theme 1: Grieving We are often taught to think that beginning starts with seeding or planting an idea/intention/goal, however small or new. But trauma teaches us that beginning often first requires grieving or an attempt to find closure in order to start again. Grieving as a self care practice is about acknowledging our losses and feeling our emotions around past experiences that might haunt us. This workshop aims to imagine and conceptualize grieving as a protective and restorative process that seeks to make our needs known and met, so that our spirits can journey forward a little lighter. This workshop serves as a "grief space" or a physical/temporal container wherein we will experience a singing bowl sound bath, receive and contemplate 4 personal prompts around grieving, explore self directed hand building techniques with clay, and share our thoughts/hold space for one another through reflective conversation. Location, Time, and Date This event will be held in West Philadelphia at 5:30 pm on August 30th, an exact location will be confirmed via email prior to the event. Intended Audience This workshop is intended for Black folks ages 8 yrs and older. We will likely be sitting on the ground though accessibility accommodations can be made per request. This will be a safe space for gender non-conforming and trans folks, and will center the comfort of queer and trans femmes. Attendees will be required to honor our intentions around safety through proper use of pronouns, respecting personal boundaries and seeking consent to engage with others. Attendees unable or unwilling to maintain a safe space will be asked to leave the event. Pricing We ask a participation fee of $15 - $35* for the making workshop, which includes the sound bath experience and all ceramic materials and tools.
