November 11 & 12, 2022 Join the School Nurse Organization of Minnesota (SNOM) at our annual conference November 11th and 12th, 2022 to expand your nursing knowledge and to network with school nurse colleagues from around the state. Friday, November 11th, our conference will begin with a presentation from our keynote speaker Ms. Alexandrea McConnel. She will help us learn about the stress response, how trauma and toxic stress impact or bodies, the importance of self-care, and ways to incorporate self-care in your daily life. Ms. Gabby Fitzgerald us learn how to navigate sensitive conversations. Mr. Brian Parker from The Taylor Hooton Foundation will identify the signs and symptoms of anabolic androgenic steroid use and identify dietary supplements that are 3rd party tested and free of banned substances. Our day will conclude with a presentation by Dr. Aimee Klapach and Ms. Kayce Godwin on how to identify the common signs and symptoms of common musculoskeletal injuries in young athletes and to determine appropriate triage and treatment. After the presentations conclude, please join us for appetizers and a social time to network with school nurses from around the state! On Saturday, November 12th, the day will start with a presentation from Ms. Anna Sonday and Ms. Tracy Princivalli. They will present on the role of the LSN in special education and how to utilize MA billing as a way to promote health services, reduce disparities, and meet the legal requirements for MDE. Ms. Princivalli will bring her experience from working in Pequot Lakes, MN. A short Annual SNOM Member Meeting will follow their presentation. Ms. Cynthia Brady will follow with her presentation on the available evidence on long term effects of COVID in children, and discuss practical strategies to manage respiratory symptoms in children after COVID. Our final speaker of the conference, Dr. Bill Doherty, will help us identify the extent and sources of polarization as it effects health care and describe communication tools than can reduce polarized conversations. The SNOM Annual Awards Luncheon will follow the conclusion of the conference on Saturday to recognize the School Nurse of the Year, School Nurse Administrator of the Year, scholarship recipients, and special recognition awards
