Orchard Worker with career growth potential and bonuses

Our small farm operates orchards with several different specialty crops, some of which we sell and ship direct to customers. Our farm has been in operation for nearly 30 years and offers stable employment for one full-time worker. We keep busy year-round with the busiest periods in October, January-March, and June. The daily work schedule will vary through the year as the weather changes and can be flexible except for during the busiest periods when overtime is likely. During most of the year, the work schedule will involve 5.5 days a week for approximately 45 hours. We may also require temporary contract labor workers periodically throughout the year, with this position supervising those workers. There is also the potential for management duties in the coming years for the employee who is looking for a career as owners eventually phase into retirement. Payroll is semi-monthly. A $500 hiring bonus will be paid with the paycheck after completion of 30 days of employment. Bonuses will be paid based on good work performance and is structured as a form of profit sharing (over $13,000 was paid in the 12 months to our prior employee). We are a fair employer who will compensate a hard-working employee well. Job duties include: • Weed control in the orchards including tractor mowing, hand weeding, and hoeing. • Running sprinkler and drip systems, maintaining lines, and injection of fertilizers under direction of owner. • Care of trees including planting, tying, sucker removal, thinning fruit, pruning, and chipping branches. • Harvesting of multiple types of fruits/nuts along with treatment and cold storage management. • During some harvest periods supervision of contract labor staff. • Packing and shipping of some crops, along with maintenance of required supplies. • Maintenance of farm buildings, fixtures, yard, and roads. • Periodic care of farm pets, such as providing food and water when owner is away. Required skills include: • Able to communication with owner in English and with temp workers in Spanish. • Able to use mobile phone to communicate with owners, in a prompt manner, via text or phone calls and use of apps. • Proactive in daily review with owner of tasks to complete and review of work completed. • Detail oriented and able to learn, complete, and follow up on tasks for different types of crops. • Able to lift up to 75 pounds to a height of 48 inches during harvest seasons. • Able to work independently, with owner, and with contract labor workers. • Able to read and write at a level sufficient to perform necessary recordkeeping and paperwork. Beneficial specialized work experience: • Mechanical and basic tractor maintenance and upkeep skills. • Experience pruning of multiple types of orchard trees. • Grafting and propagation experience. Hiring Requirements: • Valid identification that proves your right to work in the United States. • As a condition of employment, you may be required to pass a drug screen and background check. • Possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation.
