RIVERHEAD, NY — A man was injured when two tried to rob him at knifepoint in Riverhead early Saturday, police said. According to Riverhead Town Police, the incident took place at 5:30 a.m. on East Main St. near Union Ave. A Riverhead resident, 37, said he was walking home when he was approached by two men; one demanded that the man give them his belongings, police said. The man refused and while attempting to flee, one of the two displayed a knife, swung it at the man, and struck him in the hand, causing a laceration, police said. The man was able to run and call police for help, authorities said. The two men were last seen running west on East Main Street, police said. Authorities released a description of the two men: Both were black, around 30 years old, wearing dark-colored hoodies and dark pants, police said. One was about 6 feet tall with a thin build; the other was about 5-feet, 10-inches tall, also thin, police said. The man was transported to the Peconic Bay Medical Center by the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps with a non-life threatening injury; he was treated and released, police said.
