Description
The String Orchestra of Brooklyn (www.thesob.org) is auditioning new members for our 2022-2023 season on Thursday, September 8 and Saturday, September 11. We have openings in violins, violas, and cellos. While there is not an immediate need, interested bassists and wind players (we play a few shows with winds each season) should inquire.
We are a volunteer ensemble consisting of a mix of professional and nonprofessional musicians, and generally rehearse on Thursdays in Brooklyn Heights. At the same time, we are also an established part of the NYC musical landscape, commissioning and premiering works at venues ranging from BAM to Wave Hill, MoMA, and Fort Greene Park. Our most recent studio recording featured Anne Leilehua Lanzilotti’s "with eyes the color of time," an SOB commission and finalist for the 2022 Pulitzer Prize in Music.
Auditions include a combination of three required excerpts and 10 minutes of repertoire of your choosing. If interested, respond to this post or contact Eric at auditions [at] thesob.org directly.
