Description

As part of our "Community Bridges" workshop series, this final session will focus on the history and impact of the United Farm Workers Movement and its founding leaders, further examining how they inspired generations of activists. During this workshop, we'll discuss the historical context of the UFW movement, how the Chicano Movement supported the UFW, and the way in which Chicano culture embraced the past to then evolve over time. Participants will have the opportunity to craft a new poem inspired by the heroes of the various movements and the mesoamerican Floricanto poetry form. All participants are invited to submit their creations for consideration to our "Community Bridges" print anthology, a book featuring artworks inspired by the Civil Rights Era and its impact on our community today. Individuals whose work is published will receive a free copy of the anthology upon its release in late-Summer/early-Fall 2022. To learn more about submission requirements, visit https://DSTLArts.org/creativeimpact. Note: This workshop will be an in-person event, and will follow appropriate Covid-19 precautions for in-person participation as per LA County guidelines.
