Description

We ask all participants to respect the anonymity of attendees. Seating limited to first 25. We look forward to meeting and supporting you and growing together. This talk is open to all that have been exposed to trauma. However, we add a bit more added detail (ie. below in text) for trauma responders because of their unique employment and impacted family situation(s). Jahan Khamsehzadeh, PhD. will be teaching this workshop & Frank Horath will be facilitating. Sadly, many people walk through their entire lives carrying unresolved trauma. This trauma is often rooted in the formative years. This trauma can even be magnified during later years, especially amongst the first responder communities (e.g., firefighter, peace officers, nurses). Ongoing research is in motion on the trauma healing properties of the entheogenic medicines. Promising results and stories of personal healing accounts continue to unfold for overcoming “dis-ease” of the psyche: PTSD, depression, anxiety, etc. We are amid a psychedelic wellness renaissance with these entheogens. These entheogenic plant/fungi medicines can be strong agents of shift and change for healing. In this talk we primarily discuss psilocybin and touch upon MDMA (currently in FDA phase III trial and decriminalized in certain jurisdictions) as well. Topics we will cover in this class: 1) Group sharing & setting intention. 2) Psilocybin, MDMA & psychotherapy. 3) Vetting guides and retreat centers. 4) Peparation, navigation, and integrating your wellness path. For many, entheogens are a “foreign” and/or tabu topic in the workplace and/or home. Many people must of us (must carefully navigate and balance his/her needs and path in the context of their employment situation and best interest of the family. Responding to emergency situations can be both rewarding and challenging for the responder and the family. Sources of stress & strain for responders include witnessing suffering, personal harm, heavy prolonged workloads, life-and-death decisions, and time away from family & friends. First responders often have access to accepted conventional medical resources (e.g., doctors and prescription medicines) and counseling professionals. These conventional treatments can work, but many responders find themselves to be “treatment resistant.” Or the progress with the treatment becomes stuck, or is just taking too long. Typically, responders are not provided with opportunity in the workplace to become educated about alternative healing paths, in particular healing with these restricted entheogens. The issue of first responder trauma is not just an issue for the responder, but also for her/his partner, family, friends, and co-workers. Often the trauma remains bottled up within. What are the immediate and long-term implications for the responder, their psyche, and emotional expression? How will this trauma be expressed to his/her family? Will it ever be expressed and released? In this life it so important to feel vibrant and engage fully with one another. Entrapped trauma within the body, psyche, and mind can rob us of this feeling and engagement. In this workshop, we discuss how entheogens can potentially help restore feeling and engagement. We discuss concerns and questions you may have about navigating this entheogen healing & wellness path. Stress prevention and management is critical for responders to stay well and to continue to help in their family and work life situations. An entheogenic ceremony can function as agents for rapid shift. But this is just the beginning of the work. The process of integration which may include changes in nutrition, fitness practices, wellness work, and developing new communication patterns become an ongoing aspect of this work. First Responders in their work repeatedly live the “Hero’s Journey” describe the author, Joseph Campbell. They often go through the “dark night” to the other side to serve others, and then they come back home; this is the very reason many of them love this work. The entheogen healing path is much the same. At times we must move through the darkness to release blockages and trauma. This is arduous work and requires dedication and the capacity/desire to confront our deeper fears. But the reward of returning home to feeling, engagement, and balance can be well worth the price.
