Description

What is a Big Sit? A Big Sit is like a tailgate for birders. It's traditionally a 24-hour event, but this will be a mini 3-hour event instead. We will keep a tally of all the bird species we see from a 17-foot diameter. The Sit will be near the green burial prairie area of the cemetery where the birding is often quite good. You may come for all of the Big Sit, or stay for some of it. Or just stop by to say Hi and then explore the rest of the cemetery which is filled with Milwaukee history and good birding throughout its 189 acres. When you enter at the Lincoln Avenue entrance, follow the yellow line across two bridges and then follow the "Event this Way" signs. What to expect: You can bring lawn chairs and have a relaxing morning looking at birds. We'll be sitting on the lawn. There will be binoculars to use. The rules of the Big Sit will be explained when you arrive. This is a good event for those with limited mobility, as exploring can be done from paved roads. Bring snacks and beverages (non-alcholic) for yourself, or to share, and it will really have that tailgate feel.
