Did you know that avoiding tough conversations is one of the number one barriers to courage and building trust in organizations? I bet you did. Most of us, truth be told, know that we’ve skipped a tough conversation or two. We also usually have some proof in our careers that the outcome of skipping tough conversations….well, they have a way of coming back to remind us, we should have had the discussion.
How do we build the courage to have the conversation? Stay in the middle until actions are decided? Be open to possibilities and perspectives where conversations may be completely different than we expected. Have confidence in our ability to adapt and adjust to a natural conversation flow, the willingness to know that not knowing is the answer on occasion, and the patience to confirm you’re solving the real issue! Now, helping others to do the same in expansive conversations for innovation and creativity!
