Description

In light of the recent surge in Asian-American discrimination within the US, the Dissent by Design collective is working on a small art project funded by Asian Americans Advancing Justice (AAJC), Kaiser Permanente, and the University of Colorado Boulder’s Center for Humanities and the Arts (CHA), to celebrate local Asian businesses in Denver as a way to uplift and support our Asian community. The project consists of a cultural geography kit that encourages exploration and interaction with businesses in the Far East Center, Asia Center, and Alameda Square along South Federal Blvd and West Alameda Ave. The kit includes a self-guided tour map and architectural drawings, a history of local Asian and Asian American struggles, and a set of interactive postcards (that will culminate in an exhibit) prompting ways of reading and interpreting the cultural geography of Little Saigon. We will be hosting an informal gathering on Saturday, August 20th from 11am-1pm at Vinh Xuong Bakery on Alameda Ave to enjoy free snacks & drinks and to chat about the project before heading out on the self-guided tours and completing the post-cards. Please join! Postcards are pre-stamped and addressed for you to submit after adding to them. The submissions will be collected and exhibited as part of a showcase of anti-racist explorations of Denver’s cultural geography. The participant with the most submissions will receive a prize!
