Lane Foundation Pledge To Sledge-Demo Derby

To make way for Lane Regional Medical Center’s new 4-story tower, the Lane Foundation is hosting a Pledge-to-Sledge demolition event and pastalaya lunch as part of its capital campaign to support the hospital’s upcoming expansion project. Pledge-to-Sledge will be held on Saturday, August 27, from 8 AM to 6 pm in the old Nursing Home Division of Lane Regional Medical Center, located at 6300 Main Street in Zachary. Community members and staff have an opportunity to get in the swing of things and become a part of the demolition crew. Participants can pose for photos at the demolition site wearing construction gear and holding a sledgehammer, and those who are physically able to safely take part will have an opportunity to swing a sledgehammer at the building’s interior or exterior walls. Participation donations start at $20 for 5 minutes of swing time per person, and children ages 11 and under are invited to “demo” a pinata for $1 per swing. For safety, participants will be provided with goggles, hard hats and vests and required to sign a waiver of liability. Closed toed shoes are required in order to swing the sledgehammer. Pastalaya lunches prepared by Central City Steak and Seafood will be available from 11 AM to 1:30 PM in the front parking lot for $10 each. Proceeds from event will benefit Lane Foundation, the fundraising arm of Lane Regional Medical Center.
