Description

One sad reality of living in a broken, fallen world is that abuse occurs. Whether it be emotional, physical, or sexual, abuse is all too common and many people suffer from its long-term effects. The aim of Acts 29's Gospel and Abuse workshop is to: show how the Gospel addresses abuse, give hope to abuse victims, and equip the body of Christ with tools to serve and restore victims. 5:00 PM Food Truck (Dinner) 6:00 PM Welcome and Worship Steve Ross, Imago Dei Worship Team 6:15 PM Session 1: How the Cross Brings Hope to Abuse Survivors Mez McConnell, senior pastor of Niddrie Community Church and Director of 20schemes. Mez is the author of numerous books, including The Creaking on the Stairs: Finding Faith in God Through Childhood Abuse (Christian Focus) and Is There Anybody Out There?: A Journey from Despair to Hope (Christian Focus). He’s married to Miriam and has two daughters. 7:00 PM Session 2: How the Church Provides Healing for Abuse Survivors Matthew Spandler-Davison, Pastor of Redeemer Fellowship in Bardstown, KY and Vice President of Global Outreach and Director of the Church in Hard Place Initiative for Acts 29. 7:30 PM BREAK 8:00 PM Session 3: How The Bible Brings Comfort to Abuse Survivors Steve Ross is the Urban & Diversity Content Strategist for Acts 29 and serves as Lead Pastor at Arise, a multiethnic church in Ventura, CA. Steve is passionate about discipleship and mission, and loves shepherding the church toward unity in diversity. He has been married to his lifelong best friend Jamie for 21 years.
