In lieu of a parade at this year’s Buffalo Grove Days, the Village has planned several alternative events to bring the community together on the mornings of Saturday, September 3 and Sunday, September 4. Events will include a community blood drive, family fun walk and a pancake breakfast.
“A parade just didn’t feel right following the tragedy in Highland Park. There was a lot to consider in planning this year’s event including our various stakeholders—volunteers, parade units and residents along the parade route,” said Mike Skibbe, staff liaison to the Buffalo Grove Days Committee. “Ultimately, we have found a way to keep the community spirit alive while standing in solidarity with our neighbors.”
The village will hold its annual Buffalo Grove Days community blood drive, sponsored by Vitalant, will be held from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 3 at the Alcott Center, 530 Bernard Dr, Buffalo Grove, IL 60089.
The HP Strong Walk will start at 8 a.m. on Sunday, September 4, and begin at the north end of Willow Stream Park, 651 Old Checker Rd, Buffalo Grove, IL 60089. The walk will end at Mike Rylko Community Park at 1000 N. Buffalo Grove Road.
The Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove is hosting a pancake breakfast on Sunday morning from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Mike Rylko Community Park to support victims of the July 4 Highland Park tragedy.
Along the walk and at the Pancake breakfast there will be QR Codes that direct participants to the Highland Park Community Foundation's July 4th Highland Park Shooting Response Fund. All donations will go directly to victims and survivors or the organizations that support them
