MAKANA Waipā : Eat the Invasives, presented by Kona Brewing Hawaiʻi returns to the Garden Isle on September 24, 2022 to raise awareness of invasive species and funds for the Waipā Foundation. In its fourth iteration, MAKANA Waipā continues the tradition of gathering the greater community to celebrate the abundance of our ‘āina and learn about our wahi (place). We will host a silent auction to raise funds. MAKANA Waipā is an ahupua‘a culinary journey celebrating the Waipā Foundation’s popular “Eat the Invasives' dinner series. Featured Chefs from O‘ahu and Kaua`i will gather with our team of practitioners, staff and volunteers, and the community, to celebrate the bounty of Waipā and eat the invasives found on Kaua`i and throughout Hawai`i. This years featured chefs are: Chef Mark Oyama – Mark’s Place Chef Kristene “Bachan” Moon – Pig & The Lady / Piggy Smalls Chef Michael Young – Timbers Kaua‘i Atta Forrest - Local Practitioner & Team KFD Bobbi Akana - Waipā Foundation Food Team Kenwei and Amber Chong - La Gelateria Beverage partners: Akamai Juice – Cas Schwabe KōHana Rum Kona Brewing Hawaii In 2016, Kona Brewing Hawaii launched the Hanalei IPA and selected the Waipā Foundation as the beneficiary of their corresponding community give-back initiative. Since then, Kona has been a proud supporter of the Waipā Foundation, through its MAKANA community give-back program and this annual fundraiser that helps us grow our community. About Waipā Foundation: Waipā Foundation is a Hawaiian community-based nonprofit that manages the 1,600 acre ahupua'a of Waipā, located on Kaua`iʻs north shore. Their mission is to restore the valley’s vibrant natural systems and resources and inspire healthy, thriving communities connected to their resources. Waipa Foundationʻs purpose is to be a living learning center as a space to elevate and share Hawaiian values and practices, such as aloha `āina and malama` āina, and to inspire all who spend time at Waipā to adopt and incorporate them into their lives and worldview.
