Landscape Specialist Gresham or Oregon City Line Center The Landscape Specialist at PGE plays a key role in utility operations in working with customers, field crews, and other stakeholders to provide site preparation,restoration, and maintenance near PGE electrical equipment and work sites. This hybrid position could be headquartered out of the Gresham or Oregon City Line Center. Job Function: In this role, you'll work to provide site preparation,restoration, and maintenance near electrical facilities to promote the resiliency of transmission and distribution services. You will manage multiple work types such as landscape, concrete, fencing, and tree work, depending on the particular job and site. Key Job Information Landscape Specialist 6276 Grade 6 Career Level: P2 Intermediate Professional Individuals in this role require expanded professional-level knowledge and experience in landscape and arboriculture and continue to acquire higher-level knowledge and skills. They expand their knowledge to include high level knowledge of the company, processes and customers. They solve a range of more complex problems, analyzing possible solutions using advanced knowledge and applying protocols. They operate independently and receive only a moderate level of guidance and direction. Key Responsibilities: Customer Restoration: Works on more complex projects. Coordinates restoration of customer’s landscaping and hardscaping after company-related damage occurs to customer property, balancing customer satisfaction and business needs. Conducts site visits and works directly with customers to assess scope and negotiate mitigation. Recommends and suggests innovative alternatives. Responds to and resolves customer complaints. Landscape Maintenance: Reviews landscaping at assigned PGE substation(s) to ensure it does not conflict with substation operations. Determines when vegetation poses a risk and engages vendor to correct any issues according to clearance policy and other best practices and requirements. Suggests alternatives to vendor. Continuously maintains and improves line center and substation and other assigned PGE sites to meet our vision. PGE properties will be an industry example of appropriate utility landscaping using natural, filtered screening, promoting low maintenance and reduced environmental impacts, while providing year-round interest to the neighborhoods we serve. Contract Administration: Monitors assigned contractors for maintenance, construction and restorations throughout the PGE service area and power projects outside of the service area. Assists in the development of multiple and diversified specifications and guidelines. Ensures contractor performance and adherence to contract terms. Landscape Planning and Construction: Assesses scope of landscape planning and engages with customers. Prioritizes specific planning tasks. Collaborates with other areas of PGE in planning and permitting. Notifies stakeholders and oversees construction preparation. Education/Experience/Certifications: Education: Requires a bachelor’s degree in earth science, horticulture, geology, forestry, natural resources or similar field or equivalent experience. Experience: Typically two or more years in landscape, tree trimming, arborist work, nursery work or related field including vendor management and project management. Certifications, Licenses and Training: ISA Arborist certification and ODA pesticide licensure strongly preferred and required within six months of obtaining position. LCB or NALP licensing and certification preferred. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Intermediate knowledge of urban and utility forestry processes and procedures. Thorough knowledge of forestry best practices, including tree trimming and herbicide/pesticide application Thorough knowledge of regulations impacting vegetation management Working knowledge of concrete, retaining wall, fence and other outdoor construction types Working knowledge of vendor management principles Intermediate skills in critical thinking, including analysis and problem solving Working decision-making skills Working skills in critical thinking, including analysis, problem solving and prioritization Working interpersonal skills Intermediate written and oral communication skills Working presentation skills Working organizational awareness Ability to adhere to set response times, deadlines and time-sensitive tasks Ability to follow accuracy standards Ability to follow through on decision-making tasks Ability to interact effectively and collaboratively within a team environment Ability to communicate and problem solve when under stress Ability to respond and adapt to frequent change Ability to accept and demonstrate self-awareness when provided constructive feedback Ability to discern feedback and acknowledge ownership of areas of improvement Ability to avoid future mistakes by applying reasonable skills to new but similar work situations or tasks Ability to successfully collaborate with peers, managers and others within the organization Demonstrates sound memory Ability to process new information to be applied consistently to work tasks Schedule/Attendance: Ability to adhere to pre-established schedule, including start/stop time and break/lunch schedule Ability to work long hours Ability to work a variable schedule Ability to report to work and perform work during periods of severe inclement weather Ability to consistently meet attendance standards for regular, reliable, predictable, full-time attendance Ability to work shift schedule Ability to work on-call schedule Physical Capabilities This position requires a valid driver's license and a history of safe driving practices. Frequent driving/travel/commute within service territory Computer, tablet, and smartphone use (use regularly for entire work shift) Lifting/pushing/pulling/carrying: Up to 10 lbs.
