Much of painting today can be traced to Cézanne’s influence! Through studying Cezanne’s methods, composition, and style, we will strengthen and improve our own painting skills. The idea with this class is not to have you paint like Cézanne, but to become free in your own painting, as your understanding of the true dynamics of paintings comes alive. We'll examine how Cezanne brought life and energy to his work through structure, form, and distortion and apply these principles to our own paintings to enliven our work. Your painting and your seeing will open up and improve. Homework will include readings from the book Cezanne’s Composition by Erle Loran.
