Description
AVAILABLE, from Arizona Parrot Rescue. Blue Indian Ringneck, two years old. Was bought as a male but there is no DNA certificate so – who knows. In another six months, you should know the gender, although some take 3½ years to develop the ring around its neck. This bird was loved and has been well cared for but, the owner was overwhelmed – got too many birds and with other pets, family, household, just got in over her head and did not have enough time for it. They wanted it to have a better life, with more attention. I have found this bird to be cautious but trusting. He/she is still learning and making good progress. He/she will be a great companion. When outside of its cage, it likes to fly around and I have pretty much trained it to go back to the top of its own cage, where I have re-positioned a perch on top. It also likes to be on an independent mobile perch. It has not sat on my shoulder yet but – get this – it likes to retrieve food from your hand. Although I put fresh fruit/veggies in its bowl, if you hold the food up and offer it, as I do every morning, even from 10’ away, it flies to me, sits on my hand briefly, then accepts the food from my fingers and flies to its cage to eat. While prepping another piece of food, after it has finished the first piece, it will come for another, and another – rather cool. Sometimes, it wants another piece and it lets me know by bobbing its head. It is very friendly but is still learning to trust. It will need about a month and a half to settle in with a new owner. When it learns to trust completely, I expect this bird will be a delight and stay longer on your hand or wrist. It’s a very good bird and I have seen a lot of progress already. When I first got it, it would not go back into its cage when I wanted it to. Now, it will. I tell it to go back and it will. The bird gets along with other birds, big and small but, supervision is always recommended. It makes beautiful sounds but has not yet learned to talk. In my experience, five weeks of repeating the same phrase over and over again throughout the day should get it repeating a phrase, then you can move on to another phrase, or word. They are known to be great talkers. I’m asking $600 for the bird AND cage AND accessories. The cage is very nice, like new. It’s beige and measures 32” x 21.5” x 35” tall and the stand is 25” tall, on casters. Price the cage and accessories alone and you will find that the price is very reasonable. You will need to complete an application form in order to adopt.
