The founding fathers wanted this country to be a free an independent republic where there was just enough government to help the people and keep them safe and not so much that it restricted them. With big government comes more control over its people witch equals less freedom for its people and democracy was never mentioned in the constitution because they almost always end in a oligarchy where the rich and powerful make decisions on there own best interests (Russia) and not the people.
