President Trump said yesterday that he invoked the Fifth Amendment, refusing to answer questions from New York prosecutors as part of their investigation into his New York real estate businesses. Why: "New York state Attorney Letitia James campaigned on investigating Trump. And since assuming her position, rather than deal with out-of-control crime in her city, she spends her time on a fishing expedition investigating Trump's businesses. She successfully forced Trump to sit for a deposition yesterday." In the best, most-Trumpian way, he was posting on Truth Social while at the AG office: "At the very plush, beautiful, and expensive A.G.'s office. Nice working conditions, as people are being murdered all over New York - and she spends her time and effort on trying to 'get Trump.'" Trump later said: I once asked, "If you are innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?' Now I know the answer to that question. When your family, your company, and all the people in your orbit have become the targets of an unfounded, politically motivated Witch Hunt supported by lawyers, prosecutors, and the Fake News Media, you have no other choice. Hope you never have to deal with the DOJ that we now have.
