Description

“Level The Field” – an effort to equal the playing field for minority entrepreneurs and small businesses. The presentation will be discussing this partnership between The Conscious Connect & Springfield’s Small Business Development Center, our goals and objectives to building and supporting black-owned businesses, and promoting Black Business Month programming to spread the word and raise awareness about what we have planned. ABOUT Dorian Hunter Dorian A. Hunter is a passionate advocate for the underserved and underrepresented. Growing up on the south side of Springfield, Ohio, he saw firsthand how disinvestment and lack of resources can affect a community. The impacts of those experiences have led to Dorian dedicating his skills and talents toward building up his community. He is a co-founder of multiple organizations including DreamVision (2017), Springfield’s NAACP Youth Committee (2018), and The Unified Collective (2020). DreamVision is a lifestyle brand that empowers and encourages the youth to chase their dreams through fashion and events. Dorian and a group of friends and colleagues established Springfield’s NAACP Youth Committee where he chaired the organization and through the work of the team, they organized the youth and the entire community of Springfield through events, social movements, and volunteer efforts, unlike anything the city of Springfield has ever seen. The Unified Collective, or “The UC”, is a coalition of organizations that are dedicated to improving the lives of south side residents or people of color. Through this coalition, the group concentrates the efforts of the collective and creates a network of support for initiatives that improve the circumstances of the underserved communities. Dorian graduated from Wittenberg University with a B.A. in Marketing and Communications in 2019 and in 2020 graduated again from Wittenberg with his Master’s degree in Data Analytics. Dorian was recognized as a Key Player by Cedarville University in 2018 and also received the Perseverance award from Concerned Black Students during his time at Wittenberg University. He is also a current fellow with Leadership Ohio. He serves on various boards and committees, including the Strategic Planning Committee with Mercy Health, Development Committee with Springfield Museum of Art, and Strategic Housing Committee in partnership with Greater Ohio Policy Center and the City of Springfield.
