TPO's first concert this 41st season features a compilation of well-known overtures – orchestral pieces – that is usually presented at the beginning of an opera, play, oratorio, or other extended musical work. It is often used to give a preview of themes that will be more fully expanded upon later in the work they precede. Dr. Barry Kraus, Director of Bands and Coordinator of Instrumental Ensembles at Belmont University, will lead the orchestra this evening, and among the pieces performed are Outdoor Overture by Aron Copeland, Overture to West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein, and, The Cowboys Overture by John Williams, among others.
