This monthly book club led by Elsie Souza is dedicated to reading vintage mystery novels. October’s pick is The Postman Always Rings Twice, by James M. Cain. First published in 1934 and banned in Boston for its explosive mixture of violence and eroticism, it’s a classic of roman noir.We will meet in person at our new store location at 117 S. Pineapple Ave. The book club is $16 which includes your copy of The Postman Always Rings Twice to be picked up at Bookstore1 anytime before our meeting. About The Postman Always Rings Twice: When Frank, an amoral young drifter, gets thrown off a hay truck in the California desert, he ends up at a diner run by Cora and her inconvenient husband, Nick. This chance meeting puts them all on a sure path to perdition.
The Postman Always Rings Twice established James M. Cain as a major novelist with an unsparing vision of America's bleak underside and was acknowledged by Albert Camus as the model for The Stranger.
