Description
Reaching out to find out if there are any musicians or vocalists interested in serving part in the National Guard. I'm not a recruiter, but a member of the National Guard whose job happens to be to play music. The 40th Infantry Division band utilizes its members to perform as a concert band, rock band, marching band, brass ensemble (mostly quintet), and jazz ensemble. There is a lot of freedom to make your own ensembles happen. You could learn to conduct or drum major if that's your thing.
We need basically any traditional concert band or rock band instrument. In the last year we've played for the President of Ukraine, performed at Disneyland, and participated in numerous military ceremonies.
Being upfront, this is a reserve military gig. You've most likely heard the "one weekend a month, two weeks a year", saying. We are a little busier than that, but it is not undoable. You would have to go to basic training, and at some time the Army School of Music, and other leadership schools. We do rifle marksmanship, and must keep physically fit. Our members consist of teachers, engineers, mechanics, students, and span a wide range of ages, 19-59. Our unit is also very friendly to people who are LGBTQIA+.
The benefits of serving in the National Guard include tuition assistance, affordable healthcare/dental, retirement, and a bunch of others.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
