carpentry, work ethic and today's society

Correct me if I'm wrong when trying to find people that want to work for a living is very difficult now days. I'm 56 years old and a carpenter, the company I work for has been trying to find people on indeed, career builder etc., that want to work and earn a weekly paycheck but so many "oversell their abilities," or they work for a week or so to collect a check and never show up again, or they see cockroaches during demo and quit. I'm just dumbfounded about peoples work ethic today. Do any of you deal with similar things-finding employees in today's society?
