What is an old school bassist you ask? An old school bassist is a humble person who does not have an egotistical over inflated sense of their own worth to the band, or a gun for hire attitude. It's important to provide input, but unless they are fronting the band, like say McCartney or Sting, an old school bassist is willing to cede the final choice of material to whoever is. Those choices may or may not showcase the bass. An old school bassist looking for a band has a pre-digital perspective. This would be a willingness to take the time, and consideration, to actually meet other musicians with all the risks that entails. An old school bassist realizes that this approach is far superior to hiding behind a computer screen watching videos or recordings of past glories. An old school bassist may have a bumper sticker that says "Like most musicians you're following a bass player!", but realizes it's just a meme. It's a wonder that bands were ever able to form before the widespread availability of digital video, digital recording equipment, and the internet, but most of the bands we idolize did just that. I can attest from repeated personal experience that it is not only possible, but even preferable. Perception is greatly enhanced by proximity.
