Bridges Beyond Boxing – USA announces the highly anticipated youth amateur boxing showdown between Ireland and USA is slated for Thursday, September 1st at the Irish Cultural Centre in Canton, MA. Billed as the Celtic Clash in Canton, Mass, this showdown promises to be the very best amateur boxing competition New England has seen in many years. The fighters will range in age from 12-19 years old and will represent a variety of weight classes. Team Ireland will include 12 elite amateur fighters primarily from Northern Ireland and will be led by Coach Alan “Spike” Martin, from Scorpion Boxing Club in County Antrim and Coach Joe Lowe from St Paul’s Boxing Club in Belfast. These Irish fighters were selected to join Team Ireland based on their individual performances in County, Provisional and National Championships across Ireland. The Team is scheduled to land in Boston on August 28th and will be staying with host families in Milton, MA and training at local boxing gyms in Dorchester and South Boston during their week-long stay. Team USA will include 12 elite amateur fighters from across New England and will be under the guidance of Jim Perella, President of USA Boxing – New England and local boxing promoter Mark Porter. Perella and Porter will be selecting Team USA from the very best amateur fighters from across New England. Many of these fighters will have proven themselves with past performances in New England Golden Glove and Silver Glove competitions. The fight card will include 10 bouts and is sanctioned by both USA Boxing and Irish Amateur Boxing. Individual winners will receive championship belts and the winning Team will also be recognized. The evening will begin with a gift exchange between fighters from both teams. Music, bagpipes, Irish dancers and access to concessions are all part of the show on fight night. The event is proudly sponsored by the Irish American Partnership (IAP). Without the generous support and guidance of the IAP and other sponsors, this event would not be possible.
