Propagating Perennials – a free workshop being offered by the Virginia Beach
Master Gardeners
Fall is the perfect time to divide many of the perennials in your garden.
A perennial that has grown in the same spot for more than three years may be
crowded, have fewer flowers, or grow less vigorously. The initial space that
was dedicated to your plant is now too small. Dividing the plant will give it
breathing space and will boost flowering. Plant divisions will give your perennials a new lease on life and you will have a chance to plant them in other parts of your
garden or give it away to friends.
This workshop will show you the best techniques and timing to divide your
perennials so that you get healthy, happy plants. You will divide perennials during the
workshop and take home plants to add to your garden.
This workshop will be held outdoors thus participants should bring:
• Gloves
• Hand clippers
• Small shovel, hand spade, or potting knife
• Drinking water, hat, sunscreen
This workshop will be limited to 20 individuals. Registration is required. If
you find you are unable to attend please let us know right away so we can give this
opportunity to someone on the waiting list.
