Description
“Systemic change can only be realized through an ecosystem approach.” At NEW, we believe that mission-driven people and teams must collaborate to realize our vision. So for three (3) decades, we’ve been working with visionaries and doers at the NEW Center. Yet, despite our progress, we haven't activated the collective power within - and beyond - our walls. Then, 2020 happened. In the midst of all the turmoil, our team began to ask what else could be possible. How could our building become more - a hub of activism and change? What would it truly take for this space to embody our values of inclusion and collaboration? What might be possible if our space could inspire change and not simply be a container for its agents? So we began dreaming. First, we raised some funding with the help of our partners at the Ralph C Wilson Jr Foundation. Then, we hired the folks at Designing Justice + Designing Spaces to lead us through a community-centric design process. We’re grateful to have had many members of this community in the focus groups and conversations they led. That process yielded a design scheme for a new space. One that honors the history, provides for the present, and catalyzes the futures of our community. Since then, we’ve been working with the folks at PROXY, Inc., and INTOTO studio to take that scheme from concept to reality. Now, we invite you to explore the space and its potential. Join us on Thursday, September 15th (09/15/22) for a community tour through the design drawings for the new NEW Center. You’ll get to see the architects drawings, hear our CEO’s vision, and connect with others in the NEW community. You’ll also learn about our plans to raise money for the construction, and how you can support the efforts. RSVP by Monday, September 5th (09/05/22) We’re excited to unveil this new chapter and give you a first look into the future for our community! In case of bad weather, we'll postpone this event for Thursday, September 29th (09/29/22) at 5:30pm.
