Description
Trump supporters immediately cry “foul” when the FBI raided Mar-a-Lago today and removed 15 boxes of classified documents. But how do Trump supporters have any idea what information was in the search warrant application? The answer is: they don’t. So they speculate that this was just a political maneuver. But search warrants are not simply handed out. The applicant must present evidence to “a detached and neutral magistrate” to establish reasonable cause to believe that a crime was committed and that evidence proving that crime or crimes would be found in the location. There’s no question that the Attorney General was well aware of the potential fallout from authorizing his agents to seek the warrant since a search warrant for a former President’s residence is unprecedented. Therefore, the expected evidence must very damning. Moreover, the current FBI Director was appointed by Trump himself, after he fired James Comey. The bottom line is that the law applies equally to everyone, whether your name is John Doe or Donald Trump. So before you criticize the Justice Department or even President Biden (who was not advised beforehand of the search warrant), make sure you know what you’re talking about. But Trump supporters don’t want facts. They want speculation and innuendo.
