Description

Join us for a didactic workshop with Dr. Jeremy Horst Keeper DDS, PhD, the director of clinical innovation at CareQuest Innovation Partners, a pediatric dentist, biochemist, and educator. Dr. Horst’s mission is to drive developments in non-invasive dentistry to decrease suffering from tooth decay. He holds a fellowship in the DeRisi lab at UC San Francisco, where he uses cutting-edge microbiome and imaging technologies to study the mechanisms of success and failure for the treatment of caries with Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF). Clinically he focuses on maximally effective, minimally invasive techniques to stop dental caries and create an easy relationship to dentistry for children, adults and people with special healthcare needs. Alyssa Aberle, MBA, RDH , Executive Administrator of the Colorado Dental Hygienists' Association, will review Colorado laws, liability, training requirements, models currently working in the state, and a hands-on experience with GI sealants and SDF. Denyse Trunkel, RDH, MS will provide practical application uses and tips for SDF application and patient-centered communication skills for high case acceptance. Dr. Horst will be presenting virtually, followed by in-person hands-on practice and application. TRAINING HIGHLIGHTS Earn 3.5 AGD PACE-approved continuing dental education credits, plus fulfill the 1-hour CE requirement for dental hygienists to apply silver diamine fluoride.Decrease overhead while doing more for your patients.Overcome the challenges of treating children.Empower dentists, hygienists and assistants to contribute in more powerful ways.Indications, hands-on practice, and research-based outcomes of new patient-centered techniques.Learn how modern glass ionomers make sealants simpler than ever. Hands-on practice and application.Strategies and products to approach the staining of silver diamine fluoride.Colorado rules, regulations, liability and practice laws.Complimentary Advantage Arrest 38% Silver Diamine and Fluorimax 2.5% NaF product samples from Elevate Oral Care. COURSE DETAIL Learn about indications, how-to, and outcomes to empower dental teams to provide gentler care and achieve cost-beneficial success. Lessons from recent adoption in medical management of caries can guide clinicians to dramatically reduce the burden of caries in any population. Non-invasive caries management has rapidly evolved. Restorations for cavitated caries lesions with no excavation are now possible. There are definitive techniques such as Hall crowns and SMART fillings and new materials that do not stain, such as Curodont and Povidone iodine. Partial caries removal has become the international standard and modern glass ionomers make sealants simpler than ever. The evidence is strong. Many clinical trials and safety studies have been completed on Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF). FDA clearance of SDF in 2014 has spawned support from nearly all major dental groups. Learn how these changes have brought about new opportunities and new challenges: clinical trials and mechanistic studies, integration of SDF with other caries management techniques such as glass ionomer (GI) sealants, ART, and Hall, incorporation into restorative practice, clinical protocols, and monitoring for response. Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to: Lead a conversation with a patient or guardian about cavity treatment without needles or drills by presenting the indications, benefits, and risks for SDF, SMART, and Hall crowns to patients.Use silver fluoride and other minimally invasive techniques. Demonstrate how to reduce or even eliminate caries removal with SDF and/or glass ionomer.Apply glass ionomer as a long-term therapeutic restoration and explain how and why glass ionomer sealant technique is superior to resin.Understand Colorado rules, regulations, liability and practice laws.
