Description
Purpose The purpose of these monthly plant walks is to encourage a deep knowing of the plants growing in and around the wild spaces of New Hampshire (Abenaki Land). We focus on identification, familiarization, and relationship building with edible and medicinal plants and talk about respectful foraging and harvesting, regenerative care for the land, herbalism, cooking, natural dyeing, herbal first aid, and the unique ecosystem of the wild lands here. This walk is open to plant lovers, seasoned naturalists, herbalists, foragers, hikers, and beginners alike. Preparation Please come prepared to hike about one mile on uneven terrain. We will be stopping often to talk about the plants we encounter, so our pace will be quite slow. Please come prepared with plenty of water, snacks, sun protection, bug protections, suitable walking clothing, and a notebook and pen(cil) if you’d like to take notes as we walk. Location This Plant Walk is the first in-person workshop I've offered since moving here from the west coast in early 2021. We'll be beginning this series of walks in a place near and dear to my heart and home: White Oak Pond in Holderness, NH. We'll be walking through woodlands, wetlands, orchard and meadow, coastline, and the in-between spaces of borders and shade. This is prime harvest season here! We can expect to encounter many flowering and fruiting plants, hopefully mushrooms, and likely wildlife. Please map out this drive beforehand and make sure you know where we’re meeting. Leave plenty of time for driving and arrive BEFORE 11am, when our walk begins. The address is 5 Franks Ln, Holderness, NH 03245. If you're driving from downtown Holderness or Route 3 via Shepards Hill Road, take a left from Coxboro Road onto Frank's Ln (this is a driveway). When you turn into the driveway, you will see a large cottage directly ahead. Continue driveway on the driveway, taking a slight turn to the right and driving downhill toward two gray buildings. Please park in the little gravel lot above the first gray building you see. Please contact me with any questions about directions BEFORE the day of the walk. If it’s 11am and you’re not there, we will begin the walk without you. Thank you! *Notes -You may bring your kids and dogs (on leash) for no additional charge, given they are able to walk (or be carried) for the entire duration of our walk. -These walks happen rain or shine. If the weather isn’t looking great and you’d like to skip the walk, please let me know at least one day beforehand and you may transfer your payment to a future event! -I do not offer refunds, however; if you contact me the day before the walk, you may transfer your payment to a future event. I do not offer refunds or transfers for same day cancellations. Contact Info Please contact me directly with any questions at [email protected] or 206-384-8681.
