Join Street Smart Youth Project for our THYME Program back-to-school giveaway event. Here, we will be providing more information on how families can receive free utility assistance, housing assistance, and many other family resources through our program. There will also be free backpacks, school supplies, and clothing items. The above listed services are limited to families attending Carver High School and Sylvan Middle School. Youth that are not currently enrolled at the above mentioned institutions are encouraged to become a member of Street Smart Youth Project to receive updates on future opportunities. What is the THYME Program?The THYME program is a community initiative that has three components; community development support, leadership development, and vocational readiness. Community Development - Youth participants and their families will receive free tutoring services, parent and youth groups, utilities and rental assistance. Leadership Development - Youth participants will have opportunities to serve on youth councils and conduct service learning and community service projects, participate in college tours and wellness. Vocational Readiness - Youth participants will receive job training, paid internships, and skill building practicums. Who does the THYME Program serve?The THYME Program serves Youth at Carver High School and Sylvan Middle School between the ages of 12 and 17. These youth experience: Financial hardships/restrictionsAcademic under-achievementAt-risk for or history of juvenile delinquency, substance use, or behavioral challengesParents, ages 18 and older who experience: Under-resourced socioeconomic statusInterrupted education (no HS Diploma/GED)Unemployment or underemploymentSingle parentsABOUT US: Street Smart Youth Project actively engages under- resourced minority youth in structured, community-based programs in order to involve, prepare and empower them for growth and healthy living as adults, with an emphasis on prevention regarding delinquency, substance use, and HIV.
