Description

As we commence upon Black August, a celebration of Black freedom fighters past and present, we invite you to join New Voices for an afternoon of appreciating the work of past Black revolutions and envisioning what future liberation work in Pittsburgh can look like through a Reproductive Justice lens. This event will center the origins of Black August and dive into how Hip Hop was used to educate and elevate the power of Black people. After a free documentary viewing of "Let's Get Free: The Black August Hip Hop Project" we will conduct a youth-led dialogue about the oppressive systems in Allegheny County affecting young people and how young people can lead liberative efforts at school, home, and beyond. All young Black women, girls, femmes, and gender expansive young people ranging from grades 8th - 12th as well as first and second year post education students are welcome to attend!
