Description

We need to talk about Suicide. Suicide is the 12th leading cause of death in the US. It is the 11th cause of death in PA. In 2020, there were an estimated 1.20 MILLION suicide attempts with 45,979 Americans who died by suicide. That same year, for every 100,000 PA residents, there were 15.4 suicide deaths. The national average was 11. Join Chronically Strong for our next Suicide Café(TM). This event will be facilitated by Amanda Yuschock, a licensed social worker, and is hosted by, Gina Casner, whose daughter lost her life to suicide. We will introduce the idea of a Suicide Café and explore ideas/beliefs about suicide. There is no set topic - the conversation flows based on what attendees wish to discuss. The intent of this café is not to be depressing or overwhelming, but rather to open up the conversation and destigmatize suicide by coming together as a community. The idea is that by becoming more comfortable with talking about suicide and de-stigmatizing it, we can become less fearful and be able to talk about it more with our loved ones. You will not be expected to share during the meeting; receiving and listening are just as valuable. You are welcome to bring a prayer or poem to share at the café. This event is FREE. Teenagers are also welcome to attend, 14 yrs & up. Space is limited so please register by going to the Eventbrite link above, or by emailing [email protected].
