Description

Update; Was adopted by a woman but she could not handle him and brought him back within 48 hours of taking him due to he pulled her down on the leash. She claimed to have experience with Danes but that doesn't seem to be true. Please only respond if you can handle a Giant Breed and can provide the proper care for him. He is a puller and weights 160 pounds!!! We have a 14 month old Great Dane male named Archie who needs rehomed. He is a great companion with a lot of energy but unfortunately he needs far more time, training, and room to be happy and healthy. Due to recent health changes in myself we are unable to provide him with the 3 hours a day of exercise needed along with basic command training. He is housebroken, good with other dogs and children, but would not be suitable for a home with children under five. We have two toddlers and there have just been too many close calls with him running about and jumping as he is close to 160 lb. He is not food aggressive nor has he ever shown any aggressive behaviors. We do not know how he is with cats as he has not been exposed to them much. We brought him home when he was 11 weeks old from a breeder in Northern Iowa and he is not neutered at this time due to recommendation from vet to wait until 2 years. He is what they call a black mantle but due to his colorings being off he is not show worthy. Archie is a great companion loves to sleep in bed the sofa and be with you 24/7. Great Danes are very anxious and clingy and need constant attention and companionship. He cannot be an outdoor animal as he needs constant contact with people as well as his inability to cool and stay warm outside. He eats approximately 8 to 12 cups of food per day and needs approximately 3 hours of exercise per day. A Great Dane is a huge dog and a huge commitment that we thought we could make but as mentioned prior, due to my recent health concerns and changes we are unable to do so at this time. If you have experience with giant breeds such as Mastiff St Bernards or a great danes Archie may be great for you. He would be great for someone with a fenced in yard and time to spend with him each day running hiking or walking. He loves car rides and is always ready to go. Also he would be great for someone who had the time and means to take him to an obedience training course. If you are interested in Archie please send an email and we can set up a meeting at the local dog park so you can watch him play and get to know him and see him. We are asking a small rehoming fee to ensure he goes to a good home. Please only contact if serious or if you know someone who is looking for an energetic large companion dog don't hesitate to send them this ad. We are keeping Archie until we find new owners as we feel the shelter would absolutely break him as he needs constant personal affection and attention. As mentioned before Archie's pros are he is housebroken, friendly, socialized with children and other animals, good with car rides, affectionate and loving, non-food aggressive, no aggressive behaviors, mostly leash trained but working on it. Archie's cons are he needs desperate obedience training for basic commands such as sit stay and come as he gets very excited and runs and jumps. Archie also loves his voice and he barks a lot we are working on this but so far have been unsuccessful. Another con is Archie will be on you at all times. Great Danes must be with their owners at all times and he is no different. If you get up he gets up and he will follow you wherever you go but he is a loyal companion and protector. If you are interested in adopting Archie please consider all that is listed in this ad and if you are still interested please contact me via email to set up a meet and greet thank you!
