Aside from the fact assault weapons are a made up term and they don't exist, there are more ar15 pattern rifles in common use than there are F- series pickups on the road, by a long shot and it includes all F-series models, 150, 250, 350 and so on. That makes ar15 pattern rifles un-bannable, come and take them. How's that for common sense?
