Description
The John Levulis Memorial Soccer Tournament is a charity-driven, fun-focused event intended to celebrate the life of U.S. Army CPT John J. Levulis. A combat infantryman, Levulis was an avid athlete. He was a Varsity letterman in soccer, basketball, and lacrosse at Eden Jr/Sr High School. This year marks our 6th tournament and after a two-year pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our final tournament. Proceeds from the tournament support the Captain John J. Levulis Memorial Foundation, a 501(c)(3). Here are some of the recent events/organizations the foundation has supported: Eden’s Hometown Hero Project to place banners of town veterans and service members along the community’s main thoroughfares Eden American Legion Post 880’s Flags Along Main Street effort to replace U.S. flags in the town. Save The Sullivans campaign at the Buffalo & Erie County Naval & Military ParkAnnual Eden High School scholarships for graduating seniors Endowed Niagara University scholarship for Army ROTC cadets and/or criminal justice majorsEden/North Collins Food Pantry during increased demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic Holiday lunch for the Eden Heights staff during the COVID-19 pandemic to say thank youLOCATION AND DATE:This year’s soccer tournament is being held in partnership with Youth of Eden Soccer at Swartz Field at 8468 N Main St. Eden, NY 14057, the very place where Levulis played youth soccer. This year’s tournament is Saturday, October 1st. GAMEPLAY:This tournament is 100% focused on having fun, celebrating John's life and gathering as a community. If you are solely looking for intense soccer gameplay, this is not the tournament for you. To maximize this year’s event we've teamed up with Youth of Eden Soccer & in conjunction with enjoying the game of soccer, this year’s tournament will only feature a non-competitive division. The tournament organizers reserve the right to deny entry to any team they feel does not fit this description. The tournament is for anyone above the age of 16 (anyone below 18 years of age will require parental permission). If you have a team member under 18, please email [email protected] to receive a parental signature form. The form must be emailed to [email protected] prior to Saturday, Oct. 1st. The number of games to be played will be based on how many teams register. Games will be self-refereed by the players. Regulation soccer nets will be used in this division. Goalies ARE allowed. Gameplay will be 7 vs. 7 including goalies. The games will have two 15-minutes halves with a 10-minute halftime. Standard soccer rules apply. All fouls result in a direct kick. Slide tackling is not allowed. Substitutions are allowed on-the-fly as long as they are in the substituting team’s defensive zone, away from the play. Teams must consist of a minimum of 7 players. While there are no coed-based requirements, coed teams are encouraged. REGISTRATION:Only one person needs to register his or her team therein making that person the team’s coach. The cost per team is $200. Teams can register via this Eventbrite page. After a team has registered, the team’s coach must email a list of the coach and players with each person’s name, shirt size & email address to [email protected]. Please title the email “(Coach’s Last Name) Roster”. Rosters must be sent by Saturday, Sept. 17th. Coaches can be players. On the day of the tournament, a team representative, preferably the coach, must sign in at the registration Pavillon at Swartz Field at 8:30 a.m. Schedules and jerseys will be given out at this time. Games are scheduled to start at 9 a.m. EQUIPMENT:Standard soccer cleats are encouraged. Shin guards are suggested, but are not required. Ball-caps and metal cleats are not allowed. Soccer balls will be provided for gameplay. Water will be available on site, but it is recommended that teams bring their own. Jerseys will be ordered for the teams as this is included in the tournament registration cost. Coaches must request how many jerseys his or her team needs and what sizes by sending an email to [email protected]. Please title the email “Jersey Request-(Coach’s Last Name). Jersey sizes are small, medium, large and XL. If another size is needed, please email [email protected]. Please list how many of each size are needed. Again, shirt sizes & roster must be sent by Monday, Sept. 17th. Coaches can be players. RAIN DATE:If the weather requires the cancellation of games, the tournament will be held the following day on Sunday, Oct. 2. ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Spectators are strongly encouraged as the day will include more than just the tournament. Corn hole boards will be available for all as well as small soccer fields, face painting & much more to make this a true family event.
